Master of Education in Planning and Economics
Philosophy of the Programme
The programme is anchored on the philosophy of scaling educational innovations responsive to societal needs for self-reliance. It is intended to provide graduate students with quality, competent, professional and technical skills required by the society in the education sector and industries though bench marking. This is in line with producing quality educational planners and economists in training, research, management and innovation in education for self-actualization. In line with this philosophy, the programme will be reviewed after every five years to align its content and requirements with emerging issues, client requirements’, the University policies, national Government policies, Commission for University Education requirements and international graduate education requirements.
Expected Learning Outcomes of the Programme
By the end of this programme trainees should be able to:
- i) Participate and contribute in the formulation of public education policy in the society.
- ii) Apply planning and economics skills in managing successfully a learning and training institution.
- iii)Use acquired skills, knowledge and competencies in solving educational related problems in the society through research and outreach programs.
- iv) Conduct economic evaluation of education policies, programmes and provide interventions.
- v)Utilize modern technologies and techniques in the practice of training and research within their institutions and the community.
Goal of the Programme
The goal of the programme is threefold. First is to prepare and train teachers and administrators for a progressive career in education profession in the field of planning and economics skills with competent, practical and innovative components. This would produce innovative and responsible leaders to serve the community in various capacities and institutions like schools, colleges, teachers’ service commission, ministry of education and global institutions at policy levels. Second, to provide a basis for advanced planning and economics training that enables teachers to pursue advanced training in professional fields. Thirdly, is to engage wider community through outreach programs and research in addressing pertinent gaps in educational matters.
Mode of Delivery of the Programme
The programme will be offered through face to face or and on blended mode
Admission Requirements
Bachelor of Education (Science) or Bachelor of Education (Arts)
or
Bachelor of Agricultural Education and Extension with:
i) Second Class Honours (Upper Division) or
ii) Second Class Honours (Lower Division) with at least two years’ experience
OR;
Credit in Post graduate Diploma in Education.
Duration: 4 semesters
Mode of Study: Part-time/Weekend
Campus: Main Campus (Nchiru)
Tuition fees per semester: Ksh. 60,000
Regulations on Credit Transfer
No credit transfer is permissible at master of education degree.

EXPECTED CAREER DIRECTIONS:
Graduates of this course can be employed by the TSC, Private educational Institutions, Government Departments, UNESCO and her affiliate organisations; Disciplined Forces, Ministries, NGOs, Education in Emergencies, Private Sectors i.e. Banks, Financial Institutions and Business enterprises, International Organizations among many others
