Master of Education in Management and Leadership

Philosophy of the programme

The programme is anchored on the philosophy of scaling educational innovations responsive to societal needs for sustainable development. It is intended to provide graduate students with quality professional and technical skills required by the society in the education sector and industries. This is in line with producing quality managers and leaders in training, research and management. In line with this philosophy, the programme will be reviewed after every 5 years to align its content and requirements with emerging issues, client requirements’, the University policies, national Government policies, Commission for University Education (CUE) requirements and international graduate education requirements.

Admission Requirements

Bachelor of Education (Science) or Bachelor of Education (Arts) or
Bachelor of Agricultural Education and Extension with:
i) Second Class Honours (Upper Division) or
ii) Second Class Honours (Lower Division) with at least two years’ experience

OR;

Credit in Post graduate Diploma in Education.
Duration: 4 semesters
Mode of Study: Part-time/Weekend
Campus: Main Campus (Nchiru)
Tuition fees per semester: Ksh. 60,000

Goal of the Programme

The goal of the programme is twofold. First is to prepare and train teachers and administrators for a progressive career in education profession in the field of management and leadership skills with competency, practical and innovative components. This would produce innovative, competent and responsible leaders to serve in schools, colleges, teachers’ service commission, ministry of education and other global institutions. Second, to provide a basis for advanced management and leadership training that enables teachers to pursue advanced training.

Expected Learning Outcomes of the Programme

By the end of this programme trainees should be able to:

 i) Use acquired skills and knowledge in solving education related problems in the society.
ii) Apply educational management and leadership skills in managing successfully a learning and training institution.
iii) Utilize modern technologies and techniques to offer competency training and research within their institutions.
iv) Contribute in the formulation of public education policy in the society.
v) Conduct educational management and leadership policies, programmes and interventions.

 

 Mode of Delivery of the Programme

The mode of delivery is through face to face.

Regulations on Credit Transfer

No credit transfer is permissible at master of education degree.

EXPECTED CAREER DIRECTIONS:

Graduates of this course can be employed by the TSC, Private educational Institutions, Government Departments, UNESCO and her  affiliate organisations;  Disciplined Forces, Ministries, NGOs, Education in Emergencies, Private Sectors i.e. Banks, Financial Institutions and Business enterprises, International Organizations among many others
