Philosophy of the programme

The Bachelor of Education Technology programme in mechanical fields is geared to produce hands-on teacher technologists who are versatile, innovative, entrepreneurial, and globally competitive. 

Goal of the Programme

The main goal of the programme is to produce innovative and hands-on professional technical teachers to fill the existing gap in training technicians in mechanical engineering, who would in turn support engineers, and lead crafts persons in both training and in the industrial sector.

Expected Learning Outcomes of the Programme

By the successful completion of this programme, the graduate will be able to:

  1. Apply acquired science and technology knowledge and skills in solving education related problems in the society and industry.
  2. Apply appropriate technical pedagogical skills in teaching successfully at the secondary school, colleges and tertiary levels.
  3. Identify researchable problems in technical education and carry out research for decision making.
  4. Participate and contribute in the formulation of public education policy in the society.

Mode of Delivery of the program

The mode of delivery is through face to face on full time basis and blended learning.

Admission requirements for the programme 

A candidate must satisfy any of the following minimum requirements:

  1. Be a holder of KSCE Mean Grade of C+ and above, with a C+ in Mathematics, Physics/Physical Science  and Chemistry; or
  2. Be a holder of KACE with at least 2 Principal passes in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and 1 subsidiary pass; or
  3. Be a holder of a degree in related disciplines from an institution recognized by Meru University of Science and Technology Senate; or
  4. Be a holder of a validated diploma in mechanical  engineering, automotive  engineering,  plant  engineering  or
  5. Have any other relevant qualifications deemed equivalent to 2.7.1 (a), (b), (c) and (d) above from an institution recognized by the Meru University of Science and Technology Senate.

Regulations on Credit Transfer in the Programme

For a candidate to qualify for a credit transfer, he/she must satisfy the following requirements:

  1. Have a relevant KNEC diploma with a minimum of a Credit PASS
  2. Have a Meru University of Science and Technology diploma in Mechatronic Engineering with a minimum of a Credit PASS taken not more than two years prior to seeking transfer.
  3. Have any other relevant diploma recognized by the Meru University of Science and Technology senate. A candidate may be granted credit transfers of up to 49% of the programme courses from a similar programme level. The Senate reserves the right to determine the number of credit transfers.
